Conservation Commission meeting minutes 7-8-2010

July 8,2010 Conservation Commission Minutes 1. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by Chris Harris in the absence of chairman, Gary Pelton. The minutes of the June meeting were accepted as written. Members present: Chris Harris, Tina Wood, George Ainley and MaryBeth Reville. Discussion of plans for the Invasive Species Workshop followed. It will take place at 7pm on Aug.10th at the Weathersfield Meeting House. Gary will run the program which will start with a powerpoint presentation. The interns from the "Student Conservation Association" who work with Gary will have prepared information on several of the invasive plants in our area. The brochure of the Weathersfield Con. Com. and several other brochures on the subject will be available. There may be some of the plants there as well. Gary will send a press release to Sally Harris to be sent to area papers announcing the workshop. Chris has spoken to Edith Hunter and she has agreed to do a commentary on VPR for more publicity. Chris and Sally will make up a poster to be distributed in many places in the area. (The Ascutney and Downer's post offices, the town office, library, store at Downer's, Ascutney Market, the Red Barn, Posey's Place, Springfield Coop, Mr. Gee's, Woodbury's, Coger's and the transfer station). Refreshments will be served-Iced tea, lemonade, cookies and brownies. Gary arrived at 7:35 and was apprised of the discussion. The decision was made to invite the town manager, the selectmen, the zoning board, the planning commission, the highway department and Irwin Post. MaryBeth will send the invitations. There followed a brief discussion about a future project we may consider which is doing an inventory of all the town owned properties.
