1. Approve minutes from the last meeting: April 26, 2011 Lisa Slade motioned to approve the minutes of the April 26th meeting as presented. Edith Stillson seconded the motion and all were in favor.
1a. Naming of Park Ernie Shand motioned the following: "The Veterans Memorial Committee prefers not to change the name of the park (where the monument is located) to the "Weathersfield Veterans Memorial Park" as the current name of ‘Perkinsville Green' belongs to Perkinsville. " Edith Stillson seconded the motion and all were in favor.
2. Memorial Day Ceremony final plans The committee went over the events planned for the Memorial Day ceremony at the monument. The laying of the wreath needed to be added to the program. 50 copies of the program will be printed on the Town's copy machine.
3. Procedure to complete list of names It was agreed that the list we now have should be sent out to as many people as possible to help ensure its accuracy. The list will be sent as a pdf file to the committee members, copies will be posted at the post offices, on the town's website, on SAPA TV, at Mr. G's Restaurant, the library, and the school notices. We will explore outing it in the newspaper and in the next tax bills being sent out. We would like to have the list completed and a calligraphied copy made by November. It was the consensus of the group to have the names engraved on brass plaques that would be attached to the monument.
4. Alter natives to present names on/at the monument No alternatives have been received from Aaron.
5. Usage of the first engraved boulder - none proposed.
6. Walk-a-thon The walk-a-thon is planned for June 4th at 9AM starting at the Town Office. The route will be the same as in previous years.
7. Education Component Four students have committed to interviewing veterans. Chip agreed to meet with them at the school to help them get started. The committee will provide financial support for project supplies. We would like to see this subject integrated into the school's curriculum so as to help refocus attention on our soldiers who are in harm's way now.
