"T he Weathersfield Veterans Memorial Committee is pleased to announce the Congressional Appropriation of $45,900 recently awarded to Weathersfield for the construction of the Veterans Memorial Monument and teaching exhibit. This grant is the result of hard work and persistence from the many volunteers in Weathersfield, and the concern and dedication of Senator Bernie Sanders and his staff who orchestrated the grant. It’s been a long journey as the initial request for funds was prepared in October 2005, but good things often take some time and soon we'll have a new monument on the Perkinsville Green dedicated to service members who entered service from Weathersfield. The project has started with the removal of the large stones from the McDerment's property as seen in these photographs. We expect to complete the project in the following steps: (1) Remove the stones and transport to Barre for the initial cutting. (2) Roughed out stones return to Weathersfield. (3) Complete the detailed stonework; and (4) Place the monument on the Perkinsville Green and conduct a Town-wide dedication ceremony sometime in 2010." ![]()
